How To Gain Control and Not React Under Pressure

Gain Control When Under Pressure

Learn how to fight fairly and gain control, whether a person is passive, aggressive, or assertive in other articles, but here you can take a real specific focus on exactly how to stop dead in your tracks when you feel yourself about to blow.

If we’re honest, ALL of us have things that trigger us, right? You bet! So are you ready for the next time someone says or does something that totally tees you off? If not, try this on:

Boom…you unexpectedly get triggered. Next thing to do, right before you say anything, ask yourself if what you are about to say:

1.) Is it true?

2.) Is it genuinely helpful?

3.) Is it inspiring?

4.) Is it really necessary?

5.) Is it kind?

Now I know what you’re thinking. “Dr Carney, you’ve got to be kidding. I just want to give them a piece of my mind.” Of course if you do that often enough you won’t have any mind left! Bottom line, seriously, do you want to take the high road and be left rising above the situation? Or do you truly want to be on the ground sparring and left smelling like you know what…with all the typical fall-out?

You might say, “My spouse and I have tried everything and we just cannot get along!”  It definitely takes practice, my friend. Proverbs 15:1 has a lot to tell us on this matter, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

“I have ... plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me ... I’ll listen. When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed. I’ll turn things around for you…” Jeremiah 29:11-14 (The Message)
"God’s Spirit is...to announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, To set the burdened and battered free, to announce, “This is God’s year to act!” Luke 4:18 (The Message)
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly." Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)
